First snow of the season ('11-'12)

We got our first snow yesterday. Don't know the official totals, but I'd guess that we were in the range of 2-3 inches on the north side of town while a friend down near Fountain had nothing.  It was a bit hard to tell since the snow was blowing a lot at first. Then, it got very heavy & wet. It's hard to transition to these suddenly cold days, but we'll be back in the 60s & 70s for the week. I still remember the weekend that we came out here to find a house. It was 80F on the Saturday and we woke up to snow and 35F on Sunday. That was during the month of October. So, all is normal ;)

White River National Forest
My husband went up to the mountains to prepare for Elk hunting season. It will be interesting to hear how the mountains look now. Pikes Peak looks very beautiful from down here.

Oh Colorado

You'd think I'd be used to this place by now...not so. Waking up to howling winds and a high temperature that is almost 20 degrees cooler is not fun. Sure, we were still around 64F today, which is a beautiful Autumn day...but it was 81F yesterday. In reality, it's the wind that annoys me more than the temperature. I'm reminded of the super windy days of Winter...

Heard on the radio that this coming weekend will probably be the peak weekend to see Fall Color in the mountains. I may have to make an impromptu drive. :) Autumn passes too quickly here. All of the burning bushes in the neighborhood are bright red. Love them.

Welcome Autumn...sort of

This blog is really just for my own curiosity, to see if there's any rhyme or reason to things out here...

It's been pretty warm still. An occasional day in the 60s, but generally the 70s and even close to the 80s. Low 40s overnight...I keep waiting for the deep freeze. It snowed in Sept. last year...

We went out to 11 Mile State Park for a camping trip last weekend. It's really beautiful out there. I was a bit surprised that the aspen trees have not started changing colors. Many of the oaks, maples, etc in our community have already started to change. We may have to go for another drive in the coming weeks to appreciate the colors. I'm ok with that - love driving up in the mountains. They really are the best part of living in Colorado :)

Hot start

We've had a lot of days in the high 80s, low 90s already this June. Seems earlier this year. Thankfully, we're still in the 50s overnight.

More snow in May

We had snow as recently as a few days ago...in May! Nothing that really accumulated but it was a nice bit of precipitation.

We went Downtown today. It was nice to see some new shops had opened up. There are still some big empty spots, but it was nice to walk around. Acacia Park can still be a bit intimidating due to the number of homeless hanging out.

Spring 2011

Spring is here. The weather has been really nice lately (50s & 60s), except for some gusty winds (40+ mph). My tulips have already sprouted in the last week which can only mean that a big snow storm will be here by the time the flowers pop up.

What's the saying about March & lions??

Well, I'm not sure, but it was in the low 60s here today. Gorgeous day. We spent the day at the park with friends. Very unexpected for February. I have to wonder when the big snow is coming. It is Colorado and it's still technically Winter. We could probably use some moisture right about now, too...In the meantime, I will enjoy these sunny, warm days.

Freaky Freezy

We had a crazy deep freeze here a few days ago. Temps in the -30s & -40s with the windchill. Yes, you read that correctly. It's a NEGATIVE sign. I didn't know if the furnace was ever going to stop running. It was intense. I don't know how ppl in more Northern states do it. Schools were closed for 2 straight days due solely to the temperatures.

It was nice to be back near "normal" today.

Still on a weather rollercoaster here. 30s w/snow flurries then sun today, 50s & 60s for the rest of the week?? Sure, I love it, but my sinuses do not. The kids keeping getting colds. This is why ppl tell you to keep all types of coats/jackets in the car while living in COS. You never know...

A reminder of what a smallt own we live in....the news headlines that ppl are being robbed. Why? Well, they still think they can leave their cars unlocked, garage doors open...I am too hardened by my past city lives to ever think those are good ideas.

What season are we in??

Weather of the Day: warm (56F), windy, ice pellets, grauple, overcast, then sunny & cooler...Lots of rollercoaster weather lately. It was only about 9F this time last week. I don't mind cold weather, but it would be nice to have a little consistency.

not-so-big snow

Another build-up for a storm that didn't amount to much...had estimates of 6-12" and we got about 2" Sunday, Jan 9th into Monday, Jan 10th. It did get freezing cold in the process though (high of 11F yesterday). The weather has been crazy, getting as warm as 50F, then these "arctic blasts." My sinuses can't take much more...

We'll be back near the 50s this weekend. Might be a good day for the zoo. Have to take advantage of the nice weather & the fact that my almost 4yo still likes to go.
